National Statistics 2001 Area Classification for Health Areas
The easiest way to view the area classifications is to use them on a map.
The maps are available in interactive form, using Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). To use these you will need the free Adobe SVG viewer. Users are advised to read our guidance notes on using these maps, in order to get the best use from this innovative facility. These notes are also available by clicking within the map page.
If you have SVG Viewer you can access the interactive map The latest available data pertain to 2001. Primary Care Organisation boundaries in England were changed in October 2006 and as a result this health area classification was amended to take on board these changes. The classification remains unchanged in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Alternatively, the main maps are available as PDF files. There are 3 images, for the different level of area classification - Supergroup, Group or Subgroup.
