Ethnic Group Statistics: a guide for the collection and classification of ethnicity data
Welcome to our guidance on how to collect and classify data on ethnicity. It gives you a simple, practical understanding of the subject and provides guidance on the best way to gather and collate these sorts of data in your own area.
This guide was developed following the advice of the Report by Policy Action Team 18 (PAT18) on Better Information. In considering the information needs of those working in Neighbourhood Renewal, PAT18 recognise that some groups in society who are vulnerable to social exclusion, are forgotten simply because not enough is known about their particular circumstances.
In tackling social exclusion issues and meeting the needs of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 there is a need for more frequent and comprehensive data by ethnicity.
It is an abbreviated version of the full guide which is available here.
