Annual Survey of Occupational Pension Schemes 2004

National Association of Pension Funds

The NAPF Annual Survey is a long running source of statistics and information on the UK occupational pensions industry. Published at the end of each year, it provides a unique source of statistics on the benefit structures of occupational pension schemes in the UK. It is based on a broad sample of NAPF member funds, which provide pension benefits to nearly 7 million scheme members and 4 million pensioners. This year's survey has over 200 tables covering areas including membership, contributions, retirement benefits and investment.

Over two hundred questions are asked, and key areas addressed in the survey and presented in the report are:

  • Scheme details, structure and design
  • Scheme rules and membership details
  • Scheme benefits, contribution rates for DB/DC schemes and other practices
  • Investment statistics and fund management details

In addition, there is a comprehensive ‘topical issues’ section which gauges members’ opinions on a range of issues including for instance FRS 17, Stakeholder and MFR. This section also gathers such information as scheme changes initiated in the last year, and structural responses to legislative changes.

The NAPF is currently working on the 2005 annual survey, which will be radically different to previous surveys in terms of content and design. The results are scheduled for release at end-2005.

The latest results are not available online, but can be purchased via the NAPF website
