The aims of the MCS
Who are we?
The service operates from within ONS's Methodology Directorate. With access to expertise within the whole directorate, the MCS is itself run by experienced methodologists who collectively cover a breadth of statistical and research disciplines, including:
Services offered by the MCS
The main services are:
Ad hoc project requests for methodological assistance - this is the mainstay of the consultancy service. Work can be funded on an individual project basis or by call off contract.
Pre- and post-assessment support - a methodological health check for statistical outputs, helping departments to prepare for UK Statistics Authority assessments. The MCS can also assist with any methodological development work surfacing as a result of an assessment.
Delivery of a statistical training programme - the MCS (jointly with the ONS Statistical Training Unit) has developed a programme of statistical training for delivery to staff across the Government Statistical Service (GSS). A copy of the latest programme of statistical training can be viewed or downloaded by clicking here
Bespoke statistical training courses - in order to meet the diverse needs of different departments across the GSS, the service offers a tailored approach to the design and delivery of statistical training courses. Our team of trainers and consultants will work with you to establish your needs and to find a training solution that works best for you.
All work is chargeable on a cost recovery basis
