Revision of Balance of Payments Manual, 5th Edition (BPM5)

The Balance of Payments Manual, fifth edition (BPM5) is being updated. The issues affecting the methodology of balance of payments and international investment position are being reviewed.

The work will be undertaken within the context of the accounting principles of the Systems of National Accounts, 1993 (1993 SNA, including its 2008 update). The Balance of Payment Technical Expert Group (BOPTEG) has been formed and will consider the work of the Inter-Secretarial Working Group on National Accounts (ISWGNA) on the revision of the 1993 SNA and decisions made by the committee on the revision of BPM5.

Overall consistency with other macro-economic statistics frameworks and manuals, such as the Government Finance Statistics Manual and the System of National Accounts 1993 (SNA93) is the main reason for updating the BPM5.
