Section K - Real estate, renting and business activities
Section K total turnover has increased by 11.8 per cent from £362.11 billion in 2006 to £404.95 billion in 2007.
Within 74.1 (legal, accounting, book-keeping and auditing activities; tax consultancy; market research and public opinion polling; business and management consultancy; holdings) total turnover has increased by 12.2 per cent from £75.23 billion in 2006 to £84.44 billion in 2007. The number of businesses has increased by 6.4 per cent from 166,661 to 177,396 in the same period. `
Figures for 74.15 (Management activities of holding companies) are slightly uncertain and should be treated with caution.
Section K (excluding the property sector SIC (2003) 70) approximate Gross Value Added (GVA) at basic prices increased by 12.4 per cent from £182.78 billion in 2006 to £205.51 billion in 2007. The movement of GVA is shown in the following graph:
NB - this graph excludes the property sector SIC(2003) 70 as GVA is not an appropriate measure within this sector.
Recent figures for Section K should be treated with caution. It now seems possible that the sampling frame from which the Annual Business Inquiry is drawn could have contained some duplicate entries, particularly in Section K.
