Introduction to the Annual Business Inquiry - 2008
The Annual Business Inquiry (ABI) is conducted in two parts: one dealing with employment, the other with financial information. The financial inquiry covers about two thirds of the UK economy including: production; construction; distribution and service industries; agriculture (part), hunting, forestry and fishing. The coverage of the employment inquiry is wider. These web pages are mainly devoted to the financial information but make some use of the employment data.
Data is available for 13 Main Variables down to the 4 digit level where available, (SIC2007), and includes higher aggregates.
Data not available on this site may be available either as a standard extract or as a special analysis, which may or may not be chargeable, information on this service can be obtained from the ABI Analysis Page.
The employment variable within Sections Q is not on the same basis as the financial variables and therefore per head estimates should not be calculated for these Sections or the A-S and G-S totals. The financial variables exclude local authority and central government bodies in all of Section Q and 8610/1, 8610/2, 8690 as well as Public Sector Hospitals in NHS trusts (8610/1), medical and dental practices (8622 and 8623).
