Summary description:
The coding index to the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) 2000.
The coding index is an alphabetical list of approximately 26,000 job titles.
Two codes are assigned to each job title in the index: the four-digit unit group code of SOC 2000, and the three-digit unit group code of SOC 1990.
Standard Occupational Classification is the standard UK classification of jobs in terms of their skill content and skill level, used for the production of occupationally classified information and the processing of occupational data. This edition is the first since 1990 and clarifies and updates the earlier edition where changes in the organisation of work or the type of work performed have occurred, especially jobs related to information and communication technologies, management, culture, media, sports and leisure. The terminology of the classification has also been thoroughly revised.
