Occupational Mortality in England and Wales
Product
For over 150 years, data on occupational mortality have been available in the Registrar General's Decennial Supplements. Occupational Mortality in England and Wales, 1991-2000, a joint publication of the Office for National Statistics and the Health and Safety Executive, continues this series and shows proportional mortality ratios (PMRs) for causes of death by occupation group for the period 1991-2000.
PMRs estimate the proportion of people classified by death registration to a particular occupation who died from a specific cause and compares that proportion to that for the general population. This highlights those occupations for which a particular cause of death appears to be disproportionately high.
These National Statistics are produced to high professional standards and released according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
