The New Economy - New challenges for the statistical system |
| Abstract |
The meaning of the concept ”new economy” is discussed.
The paper contains no quantitative analysis of the ”new economy”. The new economy is about co-ordination, innovation, selection and learning. To explain macroeconomic development and growth one has to understand how changes in the organisation of communication and information transfer in the economy generate measured productivity at the macro level.
Knowledge capital and quality of output are the core in the ”new economy”, but the statistical techniques to measure them are lacking. The implications for statistics are discussed for some selected fields: knowledge capital, the business process, capital stocks/capital flows and classifications. |
