Title of paper Development of the High-Tech Industry in Israel, 1995-1999: Labour Force and Wages
Abstract In this paper we define the High-Tech Industry and High-Tech Occupations in Israel based on the Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (SIC) (Central Bureau of Statistics [CBS], 1993), the employers' files of the National Insurance Institute and the Standard Classification of Occupations (CBS, 1994).
The publication aims to examine changes that occurred in employment and wages in the High-Tech Industry between 1995 and 1999, compared with the overall Israeli economy.
The following characteristics of High-Tech workers were examined in the study: age, sex, religion, education level, marital status, new immigrants versus veterans, district of residence versus district of workplace, full-time or part-time status and work hours.
We found that about one-fifth of the increase in the number of employee posts in the overall economy can be attributed to the increase in employee posts in the High-Tech Industry. We also found that over 13% of the increase in the average wage for an employee post (in current prices) could be attributed to the wage increase in the High-Tech Industry.
