Abstract

This paper presents developments in the measurement of gross domestic product (GDP) and its components at constant prices. These
developments are designed to harmonise constant price methodology across member states of the European Union (EU) using a chain-linked
approach. The outcome will be improved measurement of GDP growth, but at some loss of additivity of GDP components. The paper
outlines the reasons for the changes and goes on to discuss the way in which they will be implemented in the United Kingdom.
