Experimental Statistics: Sub-regional Government Statistics
This ET article shows by region (NUTS 1) and sub-region (NUTS 2) where Government output is produced, which regions have funded Government and which regions have received Government expenditure.
Sub-national estimates of Government accounts show by region (NUTS1) and sub-region (NUTS2), for the calendar year 1998, where General Government Output is produced, which regions and sub-regions have contributed to Government revenue and which regions and sub-regions have received Government resources (expenditure). Estimates for 1998 show that London was the NUTS1 area that had the highest General Government Output per head (£3,410) and East Midlands had the lowest (£2,148). When looking at estimates for the NUTS2 areas, Inner London had the highest Government Output per head (£5,211), whilst Essex had the lowest (£1,983).
This is the first time that sub-national Government accounts have been produced and the estimates are experimental. This ET article covers NUTS1 and NUTS2 estimates of Output and Gross Adjusted Disposable Income (GADI) for General Government, together with an explanation of the methodologies employed in producing the estimates.
Sub-national Government accounts have been produced by the ONS as part of a pilot study being conducted by Eurostat. The ONS are currently deciding on whether these accounts are to be produced on a regular basis and would therefore appreciate any comments on the estimates or on the methodologies employed in producing them.
