Expenditure on Health Care in the UK 1997 - 2006
This article provides the latest available estimates of total expenditure on health care in the UK from 1997 to 2006.
ONS makes available two sets of estimates of expenditure on health care in the UK, reflecting two different uses:
(i)
Total UK health care expenditure estimates These are the best estimates for comparing the level of health care expenditure across countries. The data are only available for the years 1997 to 2002. In addition to government and household expenditure on health, these estimates include other types of health spending, including by charities.
(ii)
Estimates from the UK National Accounts These are not the best estimates for making international comparisons of the level of health expenditure, because they only cover government and household expenditure on health. Nevertheless, these estimates give an indication of how UK health expenditure might have changed over time for more recent years. The data are available for years up to 2006.
NOTE: This article supersedes the article 'Expenditure on Health in the UK 1997-2005' published 30 August 2006.
