Who are the 'Mixed' ethnic group?
The 'Mixed' ethnic group includes a number of different mixed groups who vary on a number of demographic and socio-economic characteristics.
In the 2001 Census in England and Wales nearly two thirds of a million people were recorded as belonging to one of the 'Mixed' ethnic groups - White and Black Caribbean, White and Black African, White and Asian, and Other Mixed.
The different 'Mixed' ethnic groups have some things in common. The populations are generally young, the majority of people were born in the UK, and many have one White parent. However the Mixed group is far from homogeneous, with significant differences between groups. 'Who are the 'Mixed' ethnic group?' examines the size of the different Mixed groups, their demographic and socio-economic characteristics, and how they compare with other ethnic groups.
