Electronic Commerce and Business Change
Progress report on new research, using linked data from business surveys, is used to assess how e-commerce impacts business behaviour and performance.
E-commerce has brought changes for business - including wider markets in which to sell goods; faster access to market; the ability for companies to control electronically processes owned by others, and greater power for buyers associated with more choice. While these changes may be difficult to pick up in economic aggregates, evidence gathered by ONS at business level has started to show their effects.
Business data gathered from surveys covering:
enterprise output and employment (the Annual Business Inquiry) innovation inputs and outputs (the Community Innovation Survey) ICT and e-business use (the e-Commerce Inquiry) has been brought together to examine the relationships between e-business, innovation and overall business performance.
